Stud Info

Derella Downs & Pyramid Poll Merinos are consistently breeding plain bodied, easy care, long stapled, elite wools on long bodied quick maturing sheep suited to all rainfall types. Our AI program now consists of 1000 ewes per year which started in 2005 with just 600 ewes. We have been performance recording - fleece weighing and micron testing since 1995, eye muscle scanning since 2005, and using ASBV's since 2008. Currently we have sires being used in the Merino Select Trials around Australia. In 2011 we started our first ET program of 5 ewes. In 2012 we undertook DNA testing of our top 150 stud ewes plus their progeny to identify the top performing ewes which will increase our ET program to 20 ewes for 2012.

Our sheep have been displayed at Hamilton Sheep Vention in 2008 and 2009. We sold rams at Classings Classic, Murray Bridge in 2008, 2009 and 2010, to a top price of $5,500. In 2012, our rams will be displayed at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in Bendigo, as well as at Narrogin Long Wool Day on 3 August. We will conduct a Bred Well Fed Well Workshop on-property on 24 August 2012, with a ram inspection and field day on-property 31 August 2012, as well as participate at Newdegate Field Days 5 & 6 September and conduct our on-farm ram sale, 12 September 2012.

SALES
We have been selling at the Esperance Ram Sale since 2003 starting with 8 rams and in 2011 selling 100 rams receiving top price for the poll and horn rams, and the highest average of $1450.
In 2012 we are holding our first on-farm ram sale consisting of 170 merino and poll merinos all with current ASBV's, including fleece weights and micron tests on Wednesday 12 September and a further 120 rams will be available for private selection after the sale at 1.00pm
